
To kick-off play in October, the Red Barons traveled to Onondaga Community College on Tuesday, October 1st for a conference match. Corning started strong and held several leads throughout each set, ultimately falling short in the race to 25 points. The Onondaga Lazers triumphed in 3, but not without a fight from Corning. Match highlights show Tae Dukes and Maggie McClaren on offense with 7 and 6 kills respectively. Ruth Smith added 19 assists on the night, while Rai Fuller amassed 20 digs, followed by Lindsay Stratton with 12 digs.
On Saturday October 5th, Corning held a sophomore recognition to honor 2nd year players Tae Dukes, Rai Fuller, Macey Page, and Avery Underwood.
First up in the pod, Corning faced Adirondack Community College, going down in 3 sets. Tae Dukes led offensively with 6 kills and Rai Fuller contributed 14 digs on defense. Ruth Smith had 1 solo block, and tied teammates Avery Underwood, Macey Page, and Lindsay Stratton, with 1 service ace each.
Against Hudson Valley Community College the Red Barons worked hard until the very last point, ending the 3rd set in an exciting 24-26 overtime. Maggie McClaren had 10 kills followed by Lindsay Stratton with 5. Ruth Smith ran the offense with 19 assists,
as well as 3 service aces. Defensively the Red Barons would not let the ball drop, with Rai Fuller posting 19 digs and Macey Page adding 15 more. Maggie McClaren added 2 solo blocks and 3 block assists.
Up next, Corning will travel to Broome Community College on October 12th to compete against Erie and Niagara.
