On Sunday, September 29th, the Corning Community College Red Barons women's soccer team faced a challenging match against Genesee Community College, ultimately falling 2-0 on the road. Despite the loss, the team displayed remarkable resilience and determination throughout the game.
Goalkeeper Lilly Ameigh stood out with an impressive performance, racking up 15 saves, including three crucial stops from the penalty kick spot. This exceptional effort brings her season total to five penalty kick saves out of six attempts, showcasing her skill and composure under pressure.
The Red Barons' defensive unit, consisting of Izzy Enright, Laila Burchard, Kahley Stuart, Jadaya Matthews, and Lily Hancock, was steadfast against a physically demanding GCC team. Their teamwork and tenacity helped to keep the game close, preventing opportunities from the opposing offense.
In the midfield and forward positions, the team maintained good possession and aggressively worked to create scoring opportunities. However, the squad faced difficulties in converting those chances into goals, leaving them unable to break through the GCC defense.
As the Red Barons regroup, they will look to bounce back quickly. The team is now preparing for an important final home game of the year against Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) next Sunday.
