On September 26, 2024, the Corning Community College Red Barons faced off against a formidable opponent in the Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) women's soccer team. From the opening whistle, it was clear that the Red Barons were eager to secure a victory, showcasing their determination with multiple shots on goal within the first fifteen minutes of the match.
Despite their aggressive start, Corning struggled to convert their early chances into goals. The Red Barons breakthrough came in the 25th minute when freshman standout Lequisha George displayed her skills by outmaneuvering a defender in the box to net her first goal of the evening. Just ten minutes later, during a corner kick that caused chaos in the box, Lequisha struck again, capitalizing on the opportunity to complete her brace and put the Red Barons ahead 2-1 as they headed into halftime.
However, the second half brought new challenges. TC3 quickly equalized just five minutes into the half, leaving the contest finely poised. Corning fought valiantly to regain the lead, with Lequisha, Isabella, Kahley, and Cherish all making multiple attempts in the last ten minutes of the game to clinch a win. Yet, the resilient defense of Tompkins Cortland proved too strong, and despite their best efforts, the match ended in a draw.
The Red Barons now look to regroup and refocus as they prepare for their upcoming away match against Genesee Community College this Sunday.
