Corning Wins Home Opener: Moves To 2-0

On November 9, 2024, the Corning Community College women's basketball team celebrated a strong victory against MSAC rival Cayuga Community College, dominating the second half and winning by a score of 69-37. This win marks the Red Barons' first 2-0 start since the 2016-17 season.

TaylorRae Jones delivered an outstanding performance, leading the team with 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Her offensive prowess was complemented by Cherish Maglio, who contributed 14 points and secured 7 rebounds. Laila Burchard also had a notable outing, scoring 8 points while shooting an impressive 50% from the field, along with 5 assists and 3 steals. Tae Dukes dominated the boards with a game high 11 rebounds while Davonti'a Loucks & Rhiannon Perkins scored their first baskets of the season.

The game was anchored by Corning's stingy defense, which helped turn defensive plays into scoring opportunities. The Red Barons held a close 28-24 lead at halftime, but their relentless defensive pressure became evident as they forced the Spartans into 20 turnovers, recorded 12 steals throughout the game, and held Cayuga to just 13 points in the second half.

The Red Barons play again at home on November 13th versus SUNY Broome at 5:00 PM.
