Bio

Angel Schoonover, originally from Woodhull, New York, serves as the Head Athletic Trainer for the SUNY Corning Red Barons. Angel received a Bachelor’s of Biology from Houghton College in 2017, an Associate Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant from Penn State Mont Alto in 2019, and her Master’s of Athletic Training in 2022 from Lock Haven University.

She found her love for sports as a high school athlete for the Jasper-Troupsburg Wildcats where she was a three-sport athlete playing soccer, basketball, and softball, including playing on a state championship soccer team her senior year. Angel continued her athletic career at Houghton College playing one year on the court for the Highlanders, then returning to athletics at Penn State Mont Alto. While at PSU Mont Alto, she played small forward and shooting guard for the for women’s basketball team and helped lead her soccer team to the Penn State University Athletic Conference semi-finals as the goalkeeper for the Nittany Lions.

Angel carried her student athlete success to the classroom earning a PSUAC Academic All-Conference Award and was a back-to-back USCAA Academic All-American. Her personal experience allows her to understand and empathize with the physical and mental demands of being a student athlete.

During her tenure as an Athletic Trainer, Angel has had the privilege to perform sports medicine coverage at two NJCAA Softball World Series tournaments with the Red Barons in 2023 and 2024. She also earned a nomination for NJCAA Region III Athletic Trainer of the Year for the 2023-2024 academic year. Angel also served the Keuka Wolves Men’s Basketball team through their 2026 NCAA Tournament appearance. Her passion for competition is unmatched as she invests countless hours in fostering her athletes’ growth and success. Angel returns to the Red Barons family having served the athletes at Keuka College, covering Salt City Pro-Am Men’s Basketball League, and working as a Physical Therapist Assistant at Guthrie HealthWorks. She is excited to resume the role of Head Athletic Trainer for SUNY CCC as she strives to make a positive impact on countless student athletes’ lives as so many mentors in the sports world have done for her throughout the years.
