Red Barons Eliminated in Regional Pool Play

The Red Barons Volleyball team ended their season this past weekend at the NJCAA Region III Tournament held at Niagara County Community College going 4-5 in pool play. First SUNY Corning took two of three sets from SUNY Broome with scores of 20-25, 25-23, and 25-22. Next up was Monroe Community College, where the Red Barons came up short with scores of 19-25, 24-26, and 23-25. To finish out pool play, Corning faced Adirondack Community College, going 2-1 against them. The finals scores were 25-15, 18-25, and 25-18. The Red Barons were two sets away from advancing to the Regional Championship game.

On the day freshman right-side hitter, Shelby Sherman, put down 19 kills and served up 12 aces, while defensively collecting 23 digs. Teammate Autumn Edwards helped herself to 17 kills, 4 aces, and 7 blocks. Lauren Ball and Kathryn Losey each added 12 kills for the Red Barons. Setter, Maddie Gorges tallied 61 assists and 7 aces for her efforts on the day. Defensively, Emily Saltsman and Emilie Cole each put up 38 and 26 digs, respectively to keep Corning alive.

Two Red Barons were recognized Saturday for an outstanding season. Freshman, Shelby Sherman was awarded 2nd Team All-Region honors while sophomore, Autumn Edwards, was named 3rd Team All-Region. 

SUNY Corning Community College finished the season with a 17-9 overall record.
