Red Barons Take Double OT Thriller

The Red Barons Women's Soccer program faced off with Mid-State Rival Tompkins-Cortland CC on Wednesday evening it what turned out to be a double OT victory for SUNY Corning. Early in the first half, Hannah Morse was awarded a penalty in the 20th minute, goalkeeper Taylor Gray stepped up for the Red Barons and buried the shot into the back of the net. Ten minutes later TC3 was able to tie the game.

Both teams continued to battle back and forth all game long with multiple scoring opportunities including teams trading shoots off of the crossbar. Taylor Gray made an outstanding 1v1 save with two seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. In the first overtime, Kaylin Quanz hit the cross bar on a free kick with two minutes to go and Taylor Gray needed to make three huge saves in the last two minutes of the first overtime to extend the match. Taylor again would come up huge two minutes into the second overtime with a breakaway save. In the 108th minute the Red Barons won a free kick 20 yards out. Sophomore captain Sam Castaneda stepped up and found the top netting just under the crossbar to win the match. Taylor Gray finished the game with 25 saves. Next up for the Red Barons is a trip Saturday to Mid-State Cayuga.
