Red Barons Take Down Panthers: Hat trick for Johnson

The Corning CC Red Barons traveled to Tompkins-Cortland CC on Wednesday evening for a Mid-State Athletic Conference match-up. The game started with the Red Barons creating immediate pressure which helped lead to Kerene Johnson finding Danielle Dennis on the side of the box for the first goal of the game, 11 minutes in. A mere 30 seconds later, Johnson won the ball and went one on one with the keeper before slotting her shot into the side netting, 2-0 Corning. Johnson again converted a one on one opportunity to extend the lead to 3-0, the goal came 20 minutes into the second half. In the 74th minute the Red Barons were awarded a free kick at the top of the 18 yard box. Kerene Johnson stepped up and lofted it over the outstretched arms of the keeper for a far post goal which completed her hat trick, Johnson finished with 3 goals and an assist on the night. Freshman goalie Taylor gray made 8 saves to secure her third shutout of the season. The team plays again against Cayuga CC at home Saturday 10/6 at 12 pm.
