The Corning women's soccer team has proven that they're very tough to beat this season with their defense leading the way last week by providing three straight shut-outs against Region III opponents.
Against Jefferson CC, the Red Barons cruised to a 5-0 victory in Corning, NY as they opened the scoring very quickly in the contest with a 5th minute goal from Taylor Sutryk. Twenty minutes later Laura Kercher scored off of a rebound to make it 2-0 and Kerene Johnson scored minutes later from in close as she received a pass from Taylor Sutryk at the 6 yard box to put the Red Barons up 3-0 at halftime. Early in the second half, Corning tacked on another goal as Kerene Johnson tallied her second of the day on an unassisted break away. In the 68th minute, Sutryk earned a penalty kick and Taylor Gray stepped up and scored from the spot kick to close out the game with a final score of 5-0.
The Red Barons traveled to Syracuse, NY to take on conference rival Onondaga as they battled to a double-overtime draw at 0-0. The Red Barons won on penalty kicks 2-0 with Taylor Gray and Sam Castaneda taking their chances for the team, Gray also made 3 saves in the 5 player shootout.
