The SUNY Corning Community College women's basketball team proved to be a tough out in their opener on the road vs D2 Erie CC ultimately losing 56-35.

The Red Barons used great defense and timely scoring in the first half against the Kats playing them close in the first 20 minutes. SUNY CCC was down 1 point after the first quarter and took a second quarter lead 15-13 on a Zoe Cornell made jumper. Erie responded with a 7-2 run and led at halftime 20-17.

To start the 3rd quarter Amelia Finlayson made a two point basket bringing the Red Barons within one point of ECC. However, that was the closest the team would get as Erie outscored the Red Barons 36-18 in the second half.

Ava Bruehwiler led the Red Barons with 16 points and six boards while freshman Andrealis Colon scored 11 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and handed out 5 assists.
