The Corning softball team continued its long road stretch playing their 16th game on the road Tuesday when they traveled to Williamsville, NY. The Red Barons completed a sweep of their hosts, Erie CC, by scores of 11-0 and 8-4.
Emily McCreery threw a one-hit shutout in game one with 9 strikeouts as the offense managed 2 runs in the 1st, 5 in the 4th and 4 on the 5th. Grace Talbut was 2 for 2 with two doubles and two RBI's, Grace Vondracek was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's, Kiki Grover was 2 for 3 and Lexi Wood was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's and a homerun. In game two, the Corning bats took some time to get going but were able to 3 runs in the 6th to seal the win. The early back and forth battle saw Erie lead 1-0 after one inning and 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th. The balanced attack saw 8 different hitters get a base knock, but none had more than one hit. Wood had 3 RBI's, Grover had 2 RBI's while Bella Benjamin and Grace Talbut each knocked a run in for Corning. Jayden Hill had 9 strikeouts on the way to her win in the circle.
Corning improves to 11-5 overall and 6-0 in Region III play. The Red Barons travel to Onondaga CC on Thursday before finally playing at home on Sunday, April 10 when they host Niagara CCC for a noon double header.
