Softball Alumni Game a Huge Success

Softball Alumni Game a Huge Success

On Saturday, September 18, the SUNY Corning softball team hosted their first ever alumni game on the Spencer Hill campus.   Twenty three former Red Barons gathered on campus to play ball on their field again, reminisce and celebrate a long and successful history of Red Barons Softball.  What was more impressive was that the former players did not arrive alone.  There were many hugs off the field as numerous families came back to reunite and catch up since their days sitting in the stands and down the third base line together.  The Red squad defeated the Black squad 7-5 and Jill Murray ('21)  outlasted Diamond Villegas ('15) in extra pitches to win the first ever Alumni Home Run Derby crown.  After a day of softball, laughs and stories were shared off campus.

"This event was long overdue", said CCC Coach Stacy Johnson.  We have talked about it for some time but after having dinner with some of my former players a month ago, they convinced me to make it a reality.  This will be an annual event so mark your calendars for mid-September 2022.  I will release the exact date in the Spring.  We have always said, "Once a Baron, Always a Baron" and today proved that to be true.  The stories and the laughter were a testament to the fact that Red Barons softball has brought a lot of joy to a lot of people."
