Corning Wins Two Against Adirondack; Advances to the Region III Championship

The SUNY Corning Community College Red Barons softball team swept Adirondack CC on Saturday afternoon by scores of 8-6 and 13-0. In doing so, the Red Barons have advanced to the Region III Championship game on Friday. Details of game times and opponent will be released Monday.

In game one, Adirondack struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the 3rd inning.  In the bottom of the frame, Kiki Grover tripled with 2-outs and Grace Vondracek doubled in Grover to get Corning on the board.  ACC scored three more in the fourth on two Corning miscues to take a 5-3 advantage.  The Timberwolves added their last run in the 5th before Corning was able to 4 in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Hailey Burdick three-run homerun to give the Red Barons a 7-6 lead.  Burdick picked up another RBI in the 6th as she plated Vondracek to give CCC the 8-6 lead.  ACC started the 7th by doubling but Jayden Hill entered to shut down any threat and preserve the win.  Emily McCreary earned the win and Hill the save.
