Corning Offense Explodes Hitting 7 Homeruns in a Sweep of Monroe

The Red Barons bats came to life in a big way Sunday afternoon as Corning swept visiting Monroe CC.  Corning pounded out 31 hits including 7 doubles, a triple and 7 homeruns. With the 17-0 aand 17-2 wins, Corning improves to 24-0 on the season.

Game one saw Corning score 10 runs in the first inning thanks in part to a Jill Murray three-run homerun and a two-run RBI double by Christina Willsey.  Corning added 4 runs in the 3rd as Grace Vondracek homered and 3 more runs in the  4th when Lexi Wood went yard.  Murray and Vondracek went 3 for 3, Ryleigh Carson and Wood were 2 for 2, Kiarah Grover was 3 for 4 and Willsey 2 for 4.  Murray colected 5 RBI's while Wood and Willsey each had 3 RBI's.  Emily McCreery threw a one-hitter, striking out four.

In the nightcap, Kiarah Grover led off the game going deep over the centerfield fence to give Corning a 1-0 lead one batter into the game.  Monroe score two runs of their own in the bottom of the first but that was all they would manage the rest of the game.  The Red Barons scored in each inning as Murray and Wood went yard for the second time on the day and Hailey Burdick sent one deep as well.  Burdick went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI's, Murray was 2 for 2 with 4 RBI's, Wood was 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's, Grover was 3 for 4 and Vondracek was 2 for 3.  Jayden Hill earned the win in the circle giving up 3 hits and striking out 5.  

Corning, ranked #3 in the latest NJCAA National Poll,  travels to Carrier Park in Syracuse on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Herkimer College, currently ranked #2.
