Red Barons Sweep at Jefferson

The SUNY CCC softball team came away with two road wins at Jefferson CC on Saturday by scores of 4-1 and 9-5.

In game one, Corning entered the top of the fifth inning in a 0-0 deadlock when Lexi Wood hit a shot to dead-centerfield for a two-run homerun to give the Red Barons their first lead of the game.  Jefferson answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame to pull within one.  Corning added some needed insurance in the top of the 7th thanks again to Wood who belted a two-run double.  Red Barons Katie Kersch and Kiarah Grover each went 2 for 4.  Emily McCreery picked up the win scattering 6-hits.

In game two, Corning took a 2-0 lead into the top of the 4th inning when the Cannoneers plated 2 runs to tie the game.  The Red Barons finally showed some offensive pop when they scored 3in the 5th and 4 in the 6th before allowing Jefferson 3-runs in the top of the 7th.  Kersch was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's while Grace Vondracek went 2 for 3 with a triple.  Jayden Hill picked up 2 RBI's while Jodie Burdick doubled in 2 runs and Wood doubled collecting 2 more RBI's.  Ryleigh Carson was also 2 for 3 in the game.  Hill picked up her 9th victory scattering 8 hits and striking out 10.
