The SUNY CCC softball team hosted their first softball game since May 2019 and came away with a sweep of visiting Adirondack CC on Sunday. The Red Barons swept for the second straight day and improved to 4-0 after opening weekend.
In game one, Corning took the 8-0 win behind some strong defense and pitching. The Red Barons infield doubled up ACC's offense three times and Emily McCreery had a great day in the circle only gave up two hits while striking out seven. Lexie Wood went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI's, Kiarah Grover went 2 for 3 and Jodie Burdick was 2 for 4. Jill Murray picked up 3 RBI's and Katie Kersch pushed two runs across the plate.
In the nightcap, Corning had big third and sixth innings as they claimed a 16-1 win. Wood, Grace Vondracek and Hailey Burdick all went 2 for 2 while Grover was 2 for 3. Jill Murray, Wood, H. Burdick, Grover and Jayden Hill all doubled while Wood and Murray also tripled. Wood collected 3 RBI's and Murray, H. Burdick, Grover and Hill added 2 RBI's each. Hill was solid on the mound allowing four hits and striking out eight.
Corning will host Finger Lakes CC on Saturday, March 27 in a MSAC (Mid-State Athletic Conference) and Region III matchup. First pitch is at noon.
