The SUNY Corning CC softball team took the field for the first time in a year and came away with impressive wins over Suffolk CC in New Rochelle, NY. The Red Barons posted 10-6 and 9-0 wins.
In game one, Corning took a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning before the Sharks strung together three hits and two walks to take a 6-5 lead. Corning answered with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take back the lead and go ahead 9-6 and then tacked on another run in the top of the sixth to seal the game. The Corning offense pounded 15 hits, 6 of those being for extra base. Kiarah Grover led the offense going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's and a homerun. Grace Vondracek was 2 for 2 with a double, Hailey Burdick was 2 for 3, Lexie Wood was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's, a double and a triple and Jill Murray was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI's, a double and a homerun. Emily McCreery earned the win in the circle scattering 8 hits and striking out eight.
In game two, Corning pitcher Jayden Hill made her first appearance in the red and black and dominated. Hill tossed a one-hitter and struck out 13 in 5-innings of work. The Baron bats collected 13-hits as five were for extra bases. Katie Kersch went 3 for 3 with a double and Grover was 2 for 2 with a double and four RBI's. Ryleigh Carson tripled and Lexie Wood homered.
Corning opens Region III play on Sunday as they host SUNY Adirondack in a doubleader. First pitch is at 1pm and the game will be livestreamed.
