Red Barons Advance to NJCAA Region IIIB Finals with Win Over Broome CC

Tuesday's NJCAA Region IIIB semi-final game between Corning and Broome was pushed back to Wednesday and then due to unplayable field conditions at SUNY Corning CC on Wednesday, the game was eventually moved to Finger Lakes CC in Canandaigua under the lights.

Broome came out of the gates in the top of the first with a lead-off double followed by another double to plate the first run of the game and take a 1-0 lead before the Red Barons had a chance to bat.  In the bottom of the first, Danielle Dille smashed a lead-off triple followed by a Jessica Vidal-DeJesus triple to tie the game at 1's.  Leigha Jones singled home Vidal-DeJesus and Michele DiNicola followed with her own single before Hailey Burdick smacked a double, plating two more runs.  Corning scored five runs in the first frame.  After scoreless second and third innings for the Hornets, Corning struck big in the bottom of the third scoring 8 more runs.  Burdick reached base safely, then Laura Tryon, Alexa Hayes and Ryleigh Hancock all singled.  Dille drew a walk, Vidal DeJesus singled and the DiNicola blasted a monstrous three-run homerun to dead center field.  Broome would score another run in the top of the fourth but that was as close as they would get.  The Red Barons tacked on another 5 runs in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a Hancock lead-off double, a Vidal DeJesus single, a DiNicola single, an Ericka Pierce single and a Tryon single.  Laura Burrell earned the win in the circle with four innings of work, allowing 7 hits and one earned run.  Rhilea Chabot entered in the 5th to close the game allowing one hit.  Corning finished with 19 hits in four inning of work.  Vidal DeJesus was 4 for 4 with 2 RBI's, Dille was 2 for 2, DiNicola 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's, Hancock 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's, Burdick 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's, Jones 2 for 4 and Tryon 2 for 4.
