Softball Goes 2-2 to Open the Season

Michele DiNicola was named the Mid-State Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Year as voted on by the coaches. She hit over .500 with 4 HR's and 8 RBI's in conference (10 games), she also received this honor last year as a freshman.

The Corning CC softball team traveled to Hagerstown, Maryland to open the season last weekend.  The Red Barons came away with a split, sweeping Jefferson CC and dropping two games to Division II power Mercyhurst Northeast.

Against Jefferson, Corning was victorious by scores of 12-3 and 18-1.  Leigha Jones and Nikki Moffe earned wins in the circle.  Jones allowed 6 hits with 3 strikeouts with one earned run while Moffe gave up 7 hits with no earned runs.  In the series, Laura Tryon went 5 for 7 with a double and 3 RBI's, Michele DiNicola was 5 for 8 with a double, HR and 6 RBI's, Jones went 5 for 8 with a double, triple and 5 RBI's, Moffe was 2 for 4, Jessica Vidal was 4 for 6 with 3 RBI's and Hailey Burdick went 2 for 2 with a double.

Facing Mercyhurst Northeast, Corning fell by scores of 17-8 and 12-4.  Jones was 4 for 5 with a double, Tryon went 3 for 7 with 3 RBI's and a HR, Ryleigh Hancock doubled and Michele DiNicola went yard again. 

Corning will travel back to Maryland on March 23 and 24 to face Hagerstown CC and then Lackawanna CC in doubleheaders.
