Rochester Lady Lions and Warsaw HS Softball Star Katelynn Kersch SIgns with Red Barons

Corning Community College softball is excited to announce its first member of the 2019 recruiting class.  Rochester Lady Lions and Warsaw High School star Katelynn Kersch has signed her NJCAA National Letter of Intent to attend Corning CC and continue her playing career for the Red Barons.  Kersch comes to Corning with numerous accolades.  At Warsaw, she was named an LCAA 1st team All-Star,  All-Greater Rochester honorable mention and the Warsaw Offensive Player of the Year in both her sophomore and junior seasons.  Kersch has been a member of the Rochester Lady Lions travel ball organizations since the age of 8.  This past fall, competing against gold level travel teams and JUCO teams from NY, PA, OH, NJ and DE, she hit .463 with a .590 on-base percentage.  Of her 20 hits, seven were for extra bases.  She drew 20 walks, proving her ability to not only hit the ball well but her ability to see good pitches and be selective in the box.

"I am very pleased to officially announce that Katelynn will be joining the Red Barons family", said CCC head coach Stacy Johnson.  "Katie is an impact player who will make an immediate contribution and we can build a solid team around her.  I am impressed with her offensive skill set but its her competitiveness and fire that I am most thrilled to have in our dugout. A player of her caliber is a big commit for our program.   I expect big things from her, not only in the statistical columns but from a leadership perspective as well."

"Corning was the first school I visited and as soon as I stepped on campus I felt at home.  I love the classes and how every teacher communicates with one another to make sure student athletes are on track academically, " said Kersch about her decision.  "Class sizes are limited so your professor knows your name, and strengths and weaknesses in the classroom. The softball program is well run and competitive, as soon as I not only met, but played the team, I realized it wasn't just a team, it was a family. I'm looking forward to playing for Coach Johnson and excelling inside and outside of the classroom. GO RED BARONS!"
