The Corning Community College softball team traveled to Buffalo, NY on Tuesday (4/10/18) to take on Erie Community College in a Region III doubleheader. The Red Barons were able to take game one by a score of 13-5 in 6 innings. Skylar Rechner pitched all 6 innings, recording 11 strikeouts and helped her cause by hitting a solo homerun to give the team an early 1-0 lead. The score did not stay that way for long as Corning had 16 hits, 9 of which went for extra bases including a Laura Tryon HR, and every starter recorded a base knock in the game. The offensive eruption gave head coach Stacy Johnson her 511th career victory, tying her with the late Wayne Kenner for the most in school history.

With a chance to break the record, the Red Barons got behind 6-0 in the top of the 1st and never recovered from the early deficit. Although the team collected 15 hits, seven more than their opponents, they were held to only two extra base hits on the day. The game ended 11-7 in favor of the Kats which left the Red Barons with a split on the day.

The next games for Corning are home vs. Niagara County CC on Saturday, April 14th at 12pm and 2pm.
