Red Barons Fall On Road

Red Barons Fall On Road
Sha'Mere Freeman scored a game high 31 points to lead the Red Baron's, but it would not be enough as Corning Community College's Men's Basketball team fell 81-87 to Broome at the Baldwin Gymnasium on Thursday night.

The Hornets jumped out to a 14-2 lead early on, but the Red Barons battled back behind freshman guard, Colby Barnave, who chipped in with seven points in the opening frame. Marcus Reed also contributed with six points in the first half.

The Red Barons stormed back in the second half, several times cutting the lead down to a single possession behind Sha'Mere Freeman's six threes, and 22 total second half points. However, in the last seven minutes of the game, while Freeman was on fire, the freshman guard would have to sit out most of crunch time with leg cramps.

Despite the Red Baron's losing their leading scorer, they managed to cut the lead down to two points with just over a minute remaining in regulation. What turned out to be a wild sequence, the Red Barons nearly came up with a turnover, and even forced a miss shot, but a putback ultimately pushed the lead back up to four, and the Broome's Men's team never looked back.

Aside from Freeman's 31 points, sophomore guard, Damon Brumfield chipped in with 12 points and several big rebounds, Colby Barnave finished with 11, and freshman center, Joaquan Thomas chipped in with 7 points - including a highlight reel dunk that helped lead the comeback for the Red Baron's that ultimately fell short.
