#5 Red Barons Escape #12 Broome, Advance To Quarters

The #5 seeded SUNY Corning held on for a 96-91 victory at home versus Mid-State Athletic Conference opponent #12 SUNY Broome. Both teams shot the lights out in the first half, combining for 19 three pointers made in the first frame, with the Red Barons leading 53-51 at the half. Malik White and Keith Harris both reached double figures in the first twenty minutes with White hitting 5 threes and Harris providing a highlight worth four point play.

In the second half, both teams came out firing again with neither team being able to get away from the other. Broome held an 88-86 lead with 3:51 remaining in the game before Andre Stark answered with a three point basket to give the Red barons the lead. Tron Smith from Broome answered with lay-up at the other end before Ramel Powers hit two free throws. SUNY Corning was able to deflect a pass and get a steal before Andre Stark pushed the lead to three points with a floater in the lane, a lead the Red Barons would not relinquish. SUNY CCC made free throws down the stretch to secure the win, 96-91, Nick Craig helped earn the victory while recording his second career- triple-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 18 assists.

The Red Barons advance to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region III tournament where they will face #4 Hudson Valley at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, February 25th.
