Red Barons Win In Region III Quarters; Advance To Semi's

The #5 seed Corning CC Red Barons traveled to #4 seed Finger Lakes CC to play a Regional Tournament quarter final game. The Red Barons were down 4 points at halftime after a half that included 13 turnovers leading to 22 points from the host Finger Lakes CC team. The Lakers extended their lead to 9 points with 13 minutes to play before Corning started their comeback which led to them being up 6 points with six minutes to go. With 90 seconds to play and Corning down 1 point, Jahlil Nougues drove to the hoop and finished off glass to put the team up one, after a defensive stop, Nougues hit a free throw line jumper to put the Red Barons up 3 points. A lead the team did not surrender on their way to a 90-87 victory on the road. 

The sophomore players for Corning stepped up in the game as all four were in double figures scoring the ball. Christian Simmons led all scorers with 33 points and 12 rebounds, Jon Ward provided 21 points and 7 rebounds, Tamar Jackson contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Jahlil Nougues finished with 11 points and 4 assists.
