The Corning Community College baseball team split a doubleheader with Jefferson CC Saturday afternoon. Corning picked up the game 1 win 10-9 and dropped the nightcap 12-1.
In game one, Corning pounded out 14 hits. After an early 4-0 lead, Jefferson crept back scoring 4 in the bottom of the 4th to take a 5-4 lead. The Red Barons responded with 3 in the 5th but the Cannoneers wouldn't go quietly as they regained a 9-7 lead thanks to a 4 run 7th-inning. With their backs against the wall, Corning came back to score 3 runs in the 7th with the game winner off the bat of Hector Vargas. CJ Pierce was for 3 for 4, Junior Jimenez 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's, Dominic Teoli 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's, and Braxton Ramirez 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's. Donovan Arroyo picked up the win in relief, allowing 6 hits in three innings of work.
Game two was all Jefferson as they erupted for 6 runs in the 3rd and 4 more in the 6th to take the 12-1 equalizer. The Jefferson pitching staff held Corning to three hits. John Jones took the loss on the mound.
